Abdel Nasser Gharem (born June 4, 1973) is a Saudi artist and lieutenant colonel in the Saudi army. In April 2011, the installation or installation "Message/Messenger" sold for a world record price at an auction in Dubai.
his early life
Gharem was born in Khamis Mushait. He graduated in 1992 from the King Abdul Aziz Military Academy before joining the Leader Institute in Riyadh. He did not attend art training lessons in drawing, did not learn symbolism at the university, nor did he learn the history of art in general education, but he practiced art by instinct and in a creative manner. In 2003, Gharem studied at Al Muftaha Fine Arts Village in Abha.
his professional career
In 2004 Gharem and a group of Al Muftaha artists organized a group exhibition (Variety Group) in Saudi Arabia. Since then, Gharem has exhibited in Europe, the Persian Gulf and the United States, including at Martin Gropius-Bau and at the Venice Biennale, Sharjah Biennial and Berlin Biennale.
One of his first works to be shown at the Sharjah Biennial was in its eighth session in 2007, including: Flora and Fauna.
The first book about his life, Abdel Nasser Gharem: The Art of Survival, written by British author Henry Hemming, was published in London in October 2011.
As of 2014 Gharem lives and works in Riyadh. He is the co-founder of the arts initiative, Edge of Arabia. Gharem donated the proceeds from his sale to Edge of Arabia to promote art education in his home country.
Garm's works have been selected for acquisition in several museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in the United Kingdom, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in the United States of America.
