We are in front of an artist who is not easy to write about his artwork, especially since his works are characterized by symbolism and extreme abstraction, and the subjects feel that they are hidden inside the painting. He has his own direction and vision of art, so he raised many controversial topics. He lived a difficult period in Iraq, where he moved a lot and did not have a studio, and the turmoil that Iraq suffered from prompted him to move away from politics, so he began to think as a person who defends himself and his life. The drawing
The vision of the artist, Faeq Rasool, laden with the effects of a difficult life as a result of wars, differs from the vision of an ordinary person who lived a normal life, and although he worked with diagnosis for a while, he forcibly disappeared with time.
He is an artist currently residing in Vienna and worked there for twenty years as a director of a gallery. Despite his many relationships, he loves solitude, listens to music and works in drawing. His black and white works are sometimes interspersed with writings that are nothing but symbols that reflect his messages to the world. As we have learned physically, the white color and the black color are opposites because the black color absorbs all light waves and does not reflect them, while the white color absorbs light waves and reflects them completely, so the eye can see it.
When Faiq Rasul went to Vienna, it was not an escape from the homeland as much as it was a feeling of heartbreak. No one chooses a life outside the borders in which he was born. With pain and separation, but he feels that he does not have a homeland from his point of view, because the homeland is the one that contains the human being, and this containment he did not find in the place where he was born. Another point of view different from the points of view of others
Vienna gave him a large area of freedom and cultures, so he began to express his work without planning and was affected by the subject of the wall and the impact .. that people leave on the wall from practices such as writings, which permeated his works until 2017 AD, so working for him is a kind of relief, as it was in ancient Egypt, where this wonderful experience On the art of relief in ancient Egypt, and his works are large in areas and executed on canvas, and he uses materials such as sand in a technical way and a few colors. Lead and stabilizers
His works reflect his amazing message in form and content, reflecting how much he is a person who dreams of beauty and wishes for a calm world through the color white, and on the other hand, he reveals to us the ugly face of the world using the color black. Differences and controversies, as his works since 2017 have turned into a strangely new stage towards masses of blackness.
And his paintings force us to remind us how the Second World War claimed 80 million people through a cruel war that contained excessive cruelty. Faiq Rasool wanted to shout through his antonyms in the face of the recipient that the causes of wars are deranged people, and perhaps they are different people who do not belong to humans. He loves the place in which he was born, but there is a question. Asks himself what did this place give him? He only gave him a birth certificate that was followed by cruelty and wars that destroyed life and people
And if we go deeper into the significance of the black and white color in his works, we find that his works cry out, despite their ambiguity, to live our lives because death is our end, and we will only have a trace left.
At first glance, when the color black is mentioned, our eyes turn to the absence of light, because in its absence, the surroundings become black, and black here carries several connotations under the concept of absence, such as sadness, death, injustice, evil, mystery, cruelty, and threats of all kinds, so it is hated because it reflects the negative aspect of its significance for some of the recipients of the work, and on the other hand, it is associated with some of them with force. It also symbolizes elegance as the king of colors
Faiq, the messenger of the black color, did not seek to show sadness as much as he intended to show the desire to reach idealism in the world blazing with wars and hatred, although he did not hide his rebellious feelings over grief and death or his fury over the friends of hate who scattered the world and plunged it into the well of wars that never cease to be born.
And he always raises the issue of anxiety, violence and absurdity in part of his works. The artist suffers from expression because he does not know how to speak, so he expresses in silence through his artwork in an attempt to shout what is going on inside him.
Art in itself is a problem, and art is also an expression, and sometimes some words are difficult, so we resort to expressing in silence a situation that exists in the human story, so we start drawing and expressing like a young child. He says that he suffers from sleep problems because of the wars until now, and as an artist, he considers drawing a kind of rescue for the unhappy childhood that he lives in.
He was influenced by Youssef Chahine's films, The Prodigal Son, in a scene where one of his protagonists holds a picture of his school days and asks about the people in the picture.
When you stand in front of one of his works, you feel as if your temperature is high, and you may get delirious, so you see unnatural things inside the work, which is war, so you wonder how he can
