A Saudi plastic artist, in an abstract surreal language, was able to present a distinctive artistic style after adding miniatures and special decoration to his paintings, which gained them strangeness, beauty, and spread at the international and local levels. The artist “Aref Al-Ghamdi” spoke to Al-Arabiya.net that he derived his artistic style from the realism of surrealism, until he settled on drawing on abstract portraiture and developing it into miniatures, circles, squares, and motifs that characterized his paintings. He says: “My drawings were initially popular, taken from the Asiri cat and the southern style, until I developed them into a contemporary form, and found great echoes in Europe due to a new type of art, until I participated in 120 art exhibitions, including 30 international ones, and presented my first personal exhibition.” in Italy in 2014.
He added: “Through this art, I want to prove to the world what the Saudis offer in terms of creativity, professionalism and culture, deriving that from the ancient Islamic and Arab culture.” And about his beginning, he said: “I used to paint with oil, then I moved to painting with acrylic colors, because it suits my artistic style now. And I draw my thoughts, convictions, and everything that goes on in my private world of knowledge, imagination, and dreams. My love for art was from the intermediate stage. I am still searching for knowledge in the endless world of art, which made me participate in many local and international exhibitions, and get many awards, in addition to organizing 13 international exhibitions and 6 local exhibitions.” He said: “The closest paintings to myself are the paintings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman, in which I won an award from the Ministry of Education.
