Third World Caricature Exhibition
From March 1 to March 15, 1990
Nile Hall on the island

This exhibition came out of the meeting between the Unions of Arab and African Journalists. This was during October last year when the two professors, Salah Galal, President of the Union of African Journalists, and Sajjad Al-Ghazi, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Journalists, agreed to make it specific to the problems of developing countries. That is why their choice of expression in the style of caricature was a correct choice, as caricature is the art of presenting problems or revealing their secrets, that is, highlighting them in the light in preparation for dealing with them. This is also why the name of the exhibition was chosen: The Third World..
And she took over. The Egyptian Cartoon Society invited illustrators to participate in its work, and also undertook the implementation steps, starting with the procedures for reserving the Nile Hall on the island of Gezira, determining the date of its opening and its continuation, starting from the first of March until the 15th of March, and also arranging the steps for its opening at the hands of Professor Dr. Mahmoud Sharif.
The Governor of Cairo and Mr. Farouk Hosni, Minister of Culture, as well as receiving the drawings and preparing them for display, and preparing this booklet, which he participated in the costs of issuing. The Union of African Journalists, the Union of Arab Journalists, and the Rosaly Youssef Foundation. The Egyptian Cartoon Society also undertakes coordination
Business in the Nile Hall.
It is worth noting that the caricature works that make up this exhibition, while expressing the ideas of many Arab and African countries, also put before our eyes many advanced methods of caricature performance. Its most prominent feature is the sincerity of expression and the strength of the idea, in addition to the adequacy of clarity and simplicity.
It is possible to identify the temperament of each people and the quality of their artistic taste.
Perhaps this exhibition will also become evidence of the role that caricature plays in expressing the peoples of the Third World, and to prove - at the same time - that while democracy helps caricature grow and develop, caricature supports it and announces to the world that where caricature takes root, democracy takes hold.
