Oujda is a Moroccan city located in the Oujda Angad prefecture. It is the capital of the eastern region and the largest city in the region and hosts its main headquarters. It is located in the east of the kingdom on the Moroccan-Algerian border, as it is only about 14 kilometers away from the border post, a pair of mules, and thus it is considered a border city par excellence. It is 60 km away from the Mediterranean coast. On January 1, 1994, Oujda celebrated its first millennium. It was chosen as the Arab Capital of Culture for the year 2018.
It is located on Road No. 19 heading to Figuig, and the main road No. 6 linking Casablanca, Fez and Oujda towards the border with Algeria. Oujda extends over 600 km².
Eight rural communities belong to the Oujda Angad prefecture: Ahl Angad, Ain Safa, Beni Khaled, Isli, Labsara, Mustafarki, Sidi Boulounuar, Sidi Moussa Lamhaia, and three urban communities: Oujda, Beni Drar and Naima.
